Psar Dymog isn't really ambient (if one interprets the term to mean ambient of the "wallpaper" kind) but instead beatless soundscape settings of wide-ranging character and mood, many of them in a symphonic ambient-IDM style, others more akin to paradisiacal sound paintings, portentous nightscapes, and prog-inflected, extra-terrestrial journeys and it closes with four glimmering minutes of keyboard funk intertwine and church organ atmosphere. Listeners familiar with the Funckens' preference for mutation in their usual Funckarma material will encounter a similar restlessness in these 'ambient' tracks. | 2009, Rune Grammofon. Humcrush are Norwegian percussionist Thomas Strønen and keyboard player Ståle Storløkken, perhaps best known for their work with Food and Supersilent respectively. Rest At Worlds End is a varied work set that melds improvisation and electronica into something that sounds both contemporary and intriguingly original. Full of light and shade, Rest At Worlds End is by turns agitated and contemplative. Stream indulges the former quality and attacks the listener like a swarm of angry bees. Noisy and abstract, it's propelled forward by Strønen's eclectic percussion. Good art will rise from the crap and will get the respect and eventually the money it deserves. Sadly I see a lot of crybabies who think they should be making money hand over fist and I'm sorry but much of their music is simply shit. During the 80s & 90s and prior to the mp3, most touring bands (and could give you household names but won't as to expose friends) had a day job and still do. There's simply less separation between fan and artist anymore, the computer puts us right in everyone's living room. The industry sucked then and it sucks now. Sorry to shatter your dreams but music is for those who really want it and you are doing a great service helping me and others like me find it. So THANK YOU!!!".

La al doilea eveniment ca importanta din istoria umanitatii (dupa prima Inviere), desfasurat ieri la DC, cateva detalii n-au corespuns asteptarilor. Principalul protagonist are convingeri religioase chestionabile, au fost binecuvantati doar doua milioane de muritori si au fost resuscitati doar patru decedati. Urcand spre apogeu la pas, membrii "celei mai mari tupe de rockn roll de pe planeta" au dus arta interpretativa intr-un punct in care se transcede genul. Va mai amintititi probabil de vremurile in care trupele de rock doar cantau ceva muzica, trageau Charlie si devastau camere de hotel? Ei bine, s-au dus in mortii masii. Cu niste cantecele care migreaza din ce in ce mai mult spre repertoriul Gloriei Estefan, dupa cum elegant observa The Guardian, cele patru billboarduri vivante ale firmei Armani s-au desprins definitiv de cele lumesti, inaltandu-se spre tot ceea ce incepe cu "meta". Inscaunatori de presedinti, binecuvantatori de papi, filozofi vizionari, purtatori de zambet balnd, autori de taceri memorabile, fabricanti de ipoduri, monumente de marketing, vaccinatori ai lumilor paupere, porumbei ai armoniei, speranta noastra merge spre voi. Daca in toti acesti ani (adica, din '87 incoace) v-ati lasat dusi de val si ati batut drumul pana la Paris pentru a vedea "cel mai mare show de pe planeta", caiti-va in fata ultimului numar al revisei Q (desigur, cea britanica), cunoscuta drept fanzinul U2. Zguduiti-va de anvergura intelectuala a celor patru Isusi pe care ati fost destul de norocosi sa-i aveti contemporani si incepeti sa cautati pe Myspace trupe proaspete, cu nume care incep cu The, care trag Charlie, devasteaza camere de hotel si li se rupe atat de planeta, cat si de salvarea dumneaei.

| 2009, Basic Channel / 2008, Imbalance Computer Music. Atom is an audiovisual project initiated by Monolake's Robert Henke in conjunction with visual artist Christopher Bauder, who created a matrix of 64 illuminated helium balloons, the motion of which could then be controlled by the triggering of auditory events. This floating, three dimensional sonogram is reproduced at various states of transition via photos printed in the inner sleeve, and even in stasis, the balloons look to be spectacularly well choreographed. Henke leans towards more experimental sound designs on the album, removed from the full-blooded beat constructions of the Monolake output, though nor is his palette restricted to mere textures and drone tones: there's a Raster Noton-like motorised feel into this album. Even without the accompanying spectacle Atom makes for an engrossing project, and another winning musical departure for one of electronic music's most skillful producers. Information about the Italian-based Slovenian label Pharmafabrik is scarce and their website does not go beyond brief descriptions of releases, some press clippings and a shop with the occasional sound sample. The music spans a broad range of experimental genres, from ambient and drones to electro-acoustic and field recordings, all sharing intrinsic psychedelic qualities. Though the presented music genres easily lend themselves to this seamless approach, one can't help but feel that a lot of attention was paid to the artist selection and track placement, also seeming that each artist began his composition by picking up and working from the ending of the previous track. While there is space for emerging artists, the vast majority of the tracks presented in this compilation are the work of well-known and established sound art veterans from all over the world - names like like Mick Harris, Justin Broadrick, Henrik Nordvargr Björkk, Alexei Borisov and Sunao Inami hint at the quality of the material presented here. From the five year old debut album "A dried youth" (Kaleidoskop) to 2007's "0000" (Hymen Records), Hecq has drawn the lucky listener to sound worlds developed as a mixture of downbeat electronica, discreet beat pulses of clicks'n'cuts and atmospheric ambiance. | 2008, Autofact. Philip Jeck's Suite: Live in Liverpool is a vinyl-only release, intended as a companion piece to the excellent Sand, released earlier this year. The initial pressing was done in multiple colors (I got a pretty blue one!), but subsequent pressings will appear in the traditional black. The album is not a pure live recording, but a studio edit of a live recording, which means that some airbrushing has taken place. This also means that there is no audience noise to distract us from the proceedings. The most wonderful thing about hearing Jeck on vinyl is that his instrument is vinyl. The music plunges into a deep pool of vinyl crackle and we're instantly submerged in that familiar Jeck sound world. You'll hear snatches of what sounds like a gamelan ensemble tucked away in there, vast washes of old string recordings, and more industrial, sculpted noise textures too, all of which get filtered through a toolbox of disheveled, grainy electronics. For some reason every year my releases tend to cluster together in time even though I plan to spread them out. Both Sworn and Melt was ready to release back in 2007, but was delayed for various reasons and then finally released in the early summer. I would have liked to put out one more ep this year, but my forthcoming 12" Vidare is pushed back to some time next year. | 2009, Warp. If you know your historical onions, you'll know that Mark Pritchard is a bit of a legend. From his early recordings as Reload, which helped sparked the whole "post-clubbing" music explosion of the 90s, through to later work under various monikers including Link, Jedi Knights and Troubleman, Pritchard is one of those producers who speaks quietly but says very important things. He sets out to show all those pre-teen dubstep producers (most of them with at least a thousand records out before the age of twelve) exactly how it's done and it goes right for the jugular, kicking right in with a bassline that can only be described as 'phat n dutty' that just manages to keep your subwoofers on the right side of parting.
