Doamnelor si domnilor, corespondentul chestionabil la TIFF, domnul Cristi Marculescu:
"Sfârşit de mai, deci la fel ca în ultimii 6 ani Clujul se umple de filme, lume şi antren. TIFF-ul a ajuns la a şaptea ediţie, deci se apelează la elemente din arsenalul vizual al agentului 007. Mega-mesh cu cei 7 magnifici tineri furioşi ai cinema-ului românesc şi coloanele de la cinema Republica înfăşurate în bannere [etaminoase] cu girls&action&guns. Aceasta a fost introducerea. Intro-ul. În care ar fi trebuit să explic că cele ce urmează nu sunt nici must see-uri, nici recomnadări, ci mai degrabă sugestii de vizionări. Cert e că aveţi de unde alege. Pentru începutul transmisiunilor din Cluj am ales [după o privire piezişă aruncată peste programul festivalului] două filme ruseşti. Ambele over the top, dar fiecare in a league of its own.
Arca rusă [cinema Victoria, orele 12.00]
Cel mai tripat ghid turistic pus vreodată pe peliculă. Cadru secvenţă de 90 de minute, plutire printre fantome , picturi, baluri şi cristale. Fără vreo tăietură din montaj, fără explicaţii istorice, dar cu suspans hipnotic şi discuţii despre artă şi revoluţii, compozitori germani şi iconografie catolică. Exerciţiu de admiraţie pentru unii, probă de enduranţă pentru alţii. 100% cinema transgresiv prin perfecţiune.
În rolul victimei [cinema Victoria, orele 17.00]
Se ia una dintre cele mai recognoscibile piese shakespeareiene. Exact, Hamlet. Se înlătură fulgii&penele&maţele, pe carcasa dramatică astfel rezultată [fiul află că mama şi unchiul l-au înlăturat pe tată pentru a-şi putea oficializa amorul] se adaugă specific local rusesc. Uşor deformat de caracterul de reconstituire poliţienească a unor crime bizare, absurde şi ilare. Se condimentează cu răţuşte gonflabile, masturbare, o gheişă decrepită, reflecţii despre starea actuală a Rusiei şi se scaldă în hohote de râs. Rezultatul va fi o comedie dementă, neagră şi irezistibilă". |

| 2008, re-edit @ Kompakt Germany. Pluxus was formed in Stockholm in 1996, a horrible time for Swedish electronic music. The scene almost entirely consisted of mushroom trance, speed house and some extreme avantgarde. The tunes streaming out from Pluxus' old garage space outside of Stockholm was something completely different. Pluxus were originally conceived as a traditional guitar based group but have since delved into the more satisfying and exciting world of studio production, synthesizers, samples and computers, here resulting in the dazzling aural collage that is 'Solid State', a grainy clean mesh of melodic elements. | minus, un game boy roman din acelasi squad stelar al 8bit-meisterilor mario bros gen covox sau nullsleep (clar, mustata ar trebuie sa le fie mandatory), tocmai si-a lansat un proiect instrumental cu ion de la ion&vali in cadrul noptii albe a galeriilor de vinerea trecuta. mai sus aveti un mic fragment din performance-ul lor care mi-a creat aceeasi senzatie de epifanie ca si in cazul rezistentei materialelor. combo-ul de sfx-uri gameboy, clape de casio ieftine si liniile percutante de bass sunt o reteta cvasi-inedita tocmai poate prin dramatismul pe care-l adauga unui sound ludic. pe mine ma duce cu gandul la niste catch-phrase-uri de critic muzical care vrea cu tot dinadinsul sa puna etichete ca "post-8-bitronica" sau "post-pacmantronica" sau alte formule chestionabile, deci un ranking de minimum 7.1 pe pitchfork in cazul in care, hopefully, experimentul va ajunge si in formatul drag noua audiofililor de mp3. oricum, noi vom posta fidel urmatoarele lor gig-uri si poate si altceva daca zelda va fi cu noi. |

"Unul dintre angajatii unei gradini botanice mexicane fusese gasit fara viata printre greble si foarfeci la usa unei sere. O pata galbena printre cactusi infloriti, trandafiri malefici pentru dulceata si gardenii. Pentru ca fusese acoperit de polen, niste albine misunau pe el, alcatuind niste buzunare bizare pe halatul lui de botanist. Medicii legisti au concluzionat: sufocare. Ziarele au scris niste articole despre moartea lui enigmatica si au facut ceva valva, dar apoi au uitat. Asa cum uitasera si ca scrisesera cu doar doua saptamani in urma despre noua achizitie a Gradinii Botanice din Mexic: un crin urias, histrionic si potent, masurand cat un turn de 30 de acrobati mici, dar agili, care poleniza totul in jur, pe o arie de 2 kilometri.
Intrebarea care inca ii macina si azi pe cercetatorii mexicani este: poate cineva sa moara sufocat in somn daca adoarme cu o vaza de crini in camera?
Si cat timp cautati raspunsul la intrebarea de mai sus (dar sper ca nu cercetati practic) ascultati si Stervhia - trip-hop mexican, cu atmosfera de vis sufocant si bizar. Muzica lor se potriveste noaptea, de ascultat pe plaja, bine invelit intr-o patura sau cand conduci spre mare. Canta intr-un limbaj artificial, intitulat mitrahäm (dream words)". |

1999, Monolake label. Having been a central character in Berlin's electronic evolution, Monolake was the brainchild of audio mastermind Robert Henke (who went on to develop everyone's favourite music software Ableton Live), 'Interstate' was his second cd album and showcased his immense skill and effortless originality after the initial Chain Reaction releases. Apparently though, 'Interstate' was recorded using only cheap hi fi speakers so Henke was never really pleased with the sound quality of the release, so for this re-issue he decided to take the files over to Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering in Berlin for some 'experimental' mastering treatment. The audio files were pumped through various obscure analogue compressors and filters and the resulting album sounds better than it ever has, the crispy top-end he's so well known for sparkles and the bass hits you just where you need it to. Ambient/ Minimal techno, IDM, Experimental Techno and abstract digital soundsculpting (achieving symphonic effects with the manipulation of field recordings).

In Budapesta la Trafo (de tinut minte). Greu de descris in cuvinte cam ce a fost acolo. Sa zicem….pffffiiii…cam cea mai misto chestiune la care am asistat. Locatie excelenta, sunet bun si tineri cumsecade.
Despre tinerele domnite venite din spatiu, doar cuvinte de lauda (ex: fantastico!). Ne-au tinut sub hipnoza vreme de 2 ore. Acestea au fost insotite si de un anume domn Tez care ne-a demonstrat ca nu este om ci o cutie plina cu sunete pe care le controleaza dupa bunul lui plac.

| 2008, Matador. "No microphones were used on this album". Having made a quirky name in electronica for their inventive and often intriguing soundworlds sampled from the most unlikliest musical sources - including body parts, fetish clothing and liposuction surgery - Matmos are back with an album this time created entirely by using synthesisers. Not your sleek stealth-technology looking consoles mind you, but the big old analogue systems, brimming with patch-bays, ancient oscillators, and the kind of blipping oscilloscopes that set the hearts of all space cadets a-flutter. By running all kinds of splurts, squirts gurgles and gargling noises over filtered bangs and bongs, the emphasis here is on fun and novelty. In the end, those appearances point to the album's only downside, which is the nagging sense that there's too much straight homage/pastiche and not enough of Matmos' considerable cleverness on display. O noua serie chestionabila isi face loc in fiecare zi de luni. Rubrica se intituleaza Friends of e-Friends. Iar "regulile" sunt simple. Loved blog owners, friends and e-friends sunt invitatii redactiei sa posteze pe blog. Propunerea noastra in ceea ce priveste subiectul e cam la prima mana: muzica sau evenimente muzicale.

"Creamfields, ca o crema in castron
Daca nu iti place Liberty Parade, cu siguranta sosirea festivalului Creamfields, din Anglia, in Romania, in august, nu iti gadila nicio emotie. Cu atat mai putin line-up-ul, care nici macar nu merita mentionat. N-o sa credeti insa, cine aduce Creamfields la noi in tara: cantareata de muzica populara Maria Dragomiroiu si sotul ei, Bebe Mihu, prin DNB Records! Hop si-asa! Ceea ce straneste insa emotii este regulamentul festivalului, care dospeste de sfaturi ce te zguduie de ras si norme care te pun pe fuga. Cel putin, formularea lor totalitarista, totalitarista.
In primul rand, la intrare, arati buletinul. Dupa care, iti controleaza "toate rucsacurile, pachetele si sacosele, in conformitate cu legea"! - Care lege? Anul acesta se poarta sacosa? - In sacosa nu ai voie sa ai "bannere sustinute de bete (!), spray-uri de dimensiuni mari (!), umbrele, scaune (!), arme". Daca in sacosa nu ai nici o conserva, in pachet nici un gram si in rucsac nici un iatagan, atunci "trebuie sa accepti sa te supui unui control corporal efectuat de personalul de securitate autorizat legal". "Refuzul supunerii" atrage dupa sine un sut in fund, gen, si dat afara. Cred ca aceste reguli vin in urma atacului terorist cu bomba, din Londra, la metrou, acum trei ani.
Daca uniformele te lasa insa sa intrii, nu te mai lasa sa iesi. Nici macar "in cazul unei ploi abundente sau a unei furtuni". "Nu incercati sa patrundeti în zona marcata daca nu este spatiu suficient si nu impingeti, pentru a evita riscul unei busculade. Daca este necesar, Serviciul de Securitate va permite publicului sa mearga la automobile pentru adapostire", pentru ca numai securitatea stie ce ii este omului necesar! Daca intr-un final ajungi la masina si vrei sa pleci, organizatorii te roaga "sa retii" faptul ca "autoritatile vor efectua teste de respiratie".
De asemenea, organizatorii, adica Maria si sotul ei Bebe doresc sa reaminteasca participantilor faptul ca este ilegal consumul de alcool sau droguri". Cu drogurile se stie, cu alcoolul e noua. Cred ca aceasta regula vine tot din Anglia, unde pub-urile se inchid la ora 11 noaptea, ca masura extrema luata impotriva consumului de alcool; asa ca, toata lumea are grija sa fie beata, pana la ora 11. Asa si la festival, sa ne isterizam animalic de la primul acord! Si totusi, interzicerea consumului de alcool la Creamfields pare greseala de entuziasm nationalist, pentru ca doua propozitii mai joi, organizatorii ne instiinteaza ca nu ai voie sa parasesti aria festivalului cu bauturile alcoolice cumparate inauntru. Creamfields este ilegal, fata de el insusi?
"Este interzisa si aprinderea de focuri sau arderea materialelor plastice". V-a trecut vreodata prin cap sa ardeti materiale plastice? Eh, iata o idee! Iata si un sfat: "daca sunteti astmatici, va recomandam sa luati o masca pentru fata". Oare ai voie sa vii cu ea in sacosa? Cu siguranta ai voie sa intrii cu dopuri in urechi, pentru ca, "in multe parti nivelurile sunetului depasesc 90 dB, ceea ce va poate afecta grav auzul". Daca simti ca surzesti din cauza sunetului puternic si a muzicii nasoale, poti apela insa la cele doua puncte sanitare. "In caz de urgenta", insa, trebuie sa evitati utilizarea telefoanelor mobile". DE CE? Organizatorii iti dau totusi voie sa mananci. Chiar te indeamna in aceasta directie: "este bine sa mancati in timpul festivalului". In plus, te pun la curent cu zecile de activitati si "lucruri placute" pe care le poti face in perimetrul muzical: "sa va plimbati, sa ascultati muzica, sa intalniti pe altii, sa dansati, sa va bucurati de aerul proaspat, etc" si mai ales "sa intalniti pe altii". Iar daca tot "intalniti pe altii", "respectati-va pe voi insiva (...)" bla, bla, "prudenta este un bun tovaras de calatorie", asa ca, daca va bate gandul sa va duceti, undeva pe plaja dintre Venus si Saturn, fiti prudenti, inca de pe drum."

| intr-o comuna din afara bucurestiului se petrece cu siguranta ceva. Cine a castigat, omul sau natura? Au ajuns oare la mica intelegere? De ce rucsac si nu backpack? Sunt ochii oglinda sufletului? | 2008, Echocord. The debut full-length by Germany's Quantec aka Sven Schienhammer. At first (1995-1998), he started off making ambient and pieces in the spirit of early dub techno, in the footsteps of artists like Porter Ricks and labels like Mille Plateaux, as well as more experimental realms. As his knowledge expanded, so, too, did his collection of equipment, and he was able to finally bring forth the music he always wanted to make. Sven's agenda is made clear with the title of the first track 'Amanita Muscaria', signifying a love of or respect for psychedelic substances and sounds which are echoed in the esoteric dub depths of the opening cut, "which takes minimalism in a different direction than one might expect". From here on in the tracks seem to merge into a hazily tripped blur of feathered synth washes, barely audible sub undulations and glimpses of melody carried along by massively compressed kicks, lush stuff to completely give yourself up to. Jan Jelinek - Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records 2001, Scape. Jan (Gramm/Farben) Jelinek steps out most disarmingly under his own name, presenting a collection of beautifully downbeat, evocatively realized, somewhat sexy takes on the glitch; each hissy, spitty, crackling crackle-and-pop popsong is a demure dance through intricate, rhythmic, strangely groovy terrain. Whereas numerous Jelinek contemporaries (Pole, Delay, Claytons, etc.) use the dub framework to give their microtonal ambient moods a structural backbone, the smartass title of Jelinek's longplayer hints that Jan's been boning up on the form and structure of more structured jazz sounds. Which could go a ways to explaining why his ghostly, ghosted, thick-'n'-misty dissented-and-distant computronic evocation of ambient German techno-minimalism is almost, uh, funky. It reminds me of Triosk ,a post-rock jazz ensemble from Toronto, 1+3+1 with Jan Jelinek "Hence the album's titled 1+3+1 - it's a reference to how it was made. He sent us stuff, then we did stuff, then he added the final touches. He did a little bit more editing and production and mixed and mastered it in Berlin." - Triosk drummer Laurence Pike.

The idea behind Passin' Through is to unite the passion of grooving sounds with a self-harmonious album one more time and to thereby describe the journey of Danilo's musical socialization. "As with my DJ sets, I don't like to put the focus on a special style, but ideally rather begin with 70ies soul and funk, to come to jazz and hip hop and to finish with Detroit House and techno", 22-year-old Danilo Plessow from Stuttgart says about his album.

| 2007, Huume. Uusitalo (aka Vladislav Delay aka Luomo aka Finnish producer Sasu Ripatti) approaches electronic dance music in a manner that is becoming more rare these days- he uses exclusively analog equipment. Not that all computer-based electronica is bad, but by limiting himself to analog equipment, Uusitalo has avoided many of the digital cliches that tend to pop up when using familiar software applications. It wouldn't be fare to call this album a throwback though, as it still seems forward looking. The feel is somewhat close to an ambient house record, with plenty of throbbing bass lines and straight rhythmic beats coexisting with deeply reverbed pads and odd machine sounds. | 2008, Lidar. Imaginary fictional filmscores filled with wonderful orchestral pieces full of longing and melancholy. Bersarin Quartett wouldn't be a quartet, even if 'they' could spell it. They are but one man - Thomas - (a mere quarter of a quartet) from Munster and this is his addition to the soundtracks to imaginary films using classical instrumentation and electronics genre. The range of the record is notable: from the more conventional classical-sounding pieces through some crisp programmed beats and up through to some more abstract work. 5. balade trubaduresti cam tot gig-ul, dar, goddam, nici macar asa ceva nu avem pe aici. ceva melancolie sexy ca la devastations pe ici pe acolo. spre final au intrat in albumele anterioare, intr-un dinamism mai indie rock care m-a prins mai mult.

unul din acolitii lui beck, vagabond globetrotter fara ocupatie pe stil rimbaud, dupa i-a acompaniat nebunia o buna perioada la saxofon, s-a decis sa-si faca trupa, brazzaville, la inceputul anilor 2000. l-au luat in seama producatorii lui radiohead si, doh, beck, si apoi, impins de nomadism, si-a mutat sediul in europa, espagna, fc barcelona. canta sub auspiciile unui indie nu prea in voga actualmente, cu ceva bossa in tobe si-n simtiri, si pe 9 mai, in session, o sa ma felicit sau nu ca i-am recomandat.

Well, I will continue the tzac pac series with Alexander Kowalski 's (aka DisX3, d_func, Mr. Discotheque and Double X) first full-lenght album. In the opposite to his rather technoid DJ-tool orientated DisX3, d_func and Double X productions, the Alexander Kowalski tracks on "Echoes" are durably drifting towards expanding soundscapes. Being groovy and proper for the dancefloor, they are settled in the bpm-sphere of deeper Tech-House-conglomerates.
