Sfarsitul unei glorioase epoci, ultimul episod din The Sopranos. Scris si regizat de David Chase, "Made in America" are cel mai bun final pe care putea sa-l aiba cel mai bun serial produs vreodata.
"At the end of the episode, Tony is meeting his family at a restaurant in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He selects Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" from the table-side jukebox. Various people enter and Tony looks at each of them. Carmela and then A.J. arrive. Meadow is late and has difficulty parallel parking her Lexus IS outside. A man walks in and orders coffee at the counter. He seems to look in Tony's direction and walks towards him, going past to the restroom. Tony, Carmela, and A.J. each pop an onion ring in their mouths and finally, Meadow parks and rushes across the street, approaching the door. Tony hears the bell on the door ring and glances up. The screen then abruptly cuts to black. After 11 seconds, the credits roll in silence."

2006 K7. There's clearly something inside him that connects each of these pieces to him, and he's able to use it to create a real sense of continuity, even if the tracks themselves can be a little disparate. Pure electronica.

Joi seara, in timp ce pe Lia Manoliu George Michael ii facea papusi gonflabile pe Bush Jr. si Blair, in B52 “generatia asteptata” a indie-ului romanesc a mai tras niste palme metaforice pe obrazul playlist-urilor decrepite ale radio-urilor si televiziunilor din ro. Clap their cheeks say yeah cum s-ar spune.
In deschidere, au performat “nationala de indie” sau The Covers (nu, nu au nume) din ea facand parte membrii mai multor trupe care s-au intalnit initial sa faca un cover dupa brilianta “Heartbeats” (The Knife). Deja suprasuturati de cover-ul folk al lui Gonzalez, varianta lor debordeaza de aceeasi melancolie rascolitoare insa sustinuta acum de chitara electrica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzs1yZQwgAg. Desi au mai coveruit niste Stooges si Violent Femmes, melodia-pretext mi s-a parut cea mai buna.
Au urmat The Guillotines, o formatie la fel de noua si proaspata ca o lama Gillette scoasa acum din ambalaj. Nu-mi plac adjectivele hubba-bubba, insa ei mi s-au parut prima trupa romaneasca care da cu ascutisul, si trec cu vederea isteria nouazecista a la Zob. Asa cum Amsterdams sunt pionierii brit-rock-ului la noi (sa nu-mi veniti cu Vank, la ei e valabila indicatia de pe unele ambalaje: “poate contine urme de brit-rock”), “ghilotinele” inaugureaza in perimetrul dambovitean genul punk-garage cu reverberatii The Hives/The Rakes/The Subways. Functionand pe mecanismul Yeah Yeah Yeahs (fara bass) si cu vocalul-prim in spatele tobelor, The Guillotines propun o estetica abraziva, violenta, melodiile lor fiind infuzii de energie si eruperi controlate, cu versuri putine si repetitive dar centrate pe termeni “taiosi”: tornado, radiator, etc. Desi in anumite momente au mimat haosul, cred ca in putin timp vor fi mai coerenti in expresia lor muzicala, totusi nu prea coerenti, sper. Marie Antoinette, fanul lor #1, e de aceeasi parere.
Ce-a de-a treia trupa a fost deja clasica The Amsterdams, cu piese noi si cu o degajare mult mai funky de la un concert la altul. Mi se pare ca marele lor avantaj e in acelasi timp si un posibil dezavantaj: e aproape imposibil sa nu-ti placa macar o piesa de-a lor, asta pentru ca penduleaza pe o paleta larga de influente: de la tenebre Interpol, depresii urbane Bloc Party la sarituri cu coarda Franz Ferdinand; in acelasi timp, acest stil eterogen ii indeparteaza de la a-si crea o zona stabila care sa-i faca distincti. Nu se poate sa nu-i simpatizezi cand spun nonsalant "we'll take the cars out of every garage band". Ei canta chiar garage, got the irony?
Si aici ajung la utopii (hope not) gen Tony Wilson/Madchester/Hacienda/24 hour party people. Cineva, un antreprenor tanar de preferinta, ar trebui sa puna ceva claritate in toate aceste proiecte muzicale si sa le managerizeze pentru ca potential de business exista, si ma refer aici in principal la cel extern. Sigur, sunt riscuri, dar, cum spunea o campanie multi-premiata pentru EMI, nothing great comes easy.
P.S.: In randul publicului erau si o parte din membrele trupei Hector, desfiintata recent; too bad, discipole ale curentului Electrelane/Ladytron, meritau sa fie si ele pe scena in seara aia.
